Planning Your Wedding Budget- Part Two

Weddings can get pricey, and while you want your wedding to be something that is straight out of a fairytale, you don’t want to spend all of your savings on creating that. Setting a wedding budget can help you avoid breaking the bank and allow you to focus on the aspects of your wedding that are most important to you.

But setting a wedding budget and saving for everything can be tricky. In our last blog, we gave you some tips to creating a wedding budget that is effective and helps save you money. In this blog, we will give you some more tips, as well as some ideas of how to save money for your wedding! Read on for more!

Think Realistically

While it is fun to think about all the beautiful decorations, the perfect wedding gown, hiring John Legend to sing your first dance song, and dozens of twinkling lights strung overhead, this is not always the most realistic wedding plan. Unless you are personal friends with John Legend, it will be hard to get him to your wedding anyways. But the point is, when starting the plans for your wedding, be realistic about what you need, want, and should have. You will want to start thinking realistically about the plans — form the number of guests to the style of wedding you want. At this point in the budget planning phase, you should realize that some things may not work for your wedding and somethings that you really want may cost more than expected. Once you get realistic about your wedding plans it will be easier to set better expectations and start planning.

Do Some Research

Researching different vendors, asking around, and getting more information before making a decision can help you find the perfect vendor for you and your budget. Your friends who have previously planned weddings are a great source to start with. They will be able to give you tips on who to use, how to find different specials, and how they found all of their vendors. Think about what you need and look at a few different companies to compare them. Do not just pick the first vendor you find, they may not be the perfect fit for you. Doing your research can help you stick to your budget and know what you are really looking for.

Ways To Save

There are many ways to save. Whether you are saving for your wedding or cutting costs to make your wedding more affordable, there are several ways to save money in the long run.

Become Penny Pinchers

Saving money for your wedding can be as simple as reducing your spendings in other areas. Rather than going to dinner three times a week, try to only go once or not at all. While that money may not seem like a lot at the time, just remember that $50 a month is $600 a year. And you likely spend more than that on going out to eat every month. It all adds up in the end and that money can help you pay for different aspects of your wedding.

Even simply taking $200 out of your paycheck to put into your wedding fund will make all the difference in the end and allow you to not spend that money on other things. Making an effort to set money aside for your wedding can help you increase your budget and not use so much of your savings.

Cut Costs

The other way you can save on your wedding is to cut costs on things you do not need. While you may really want to incorporate specific wedding details, others may not be as important and can easily be left out of your dream wedding, take John Legend for example. Although it may be a dream come true having John Legend sing your first dance song, it is something that is not necessary and likely very expensive. Cutting these types of things out of your wedding plans can help you save a ton and use the money for more important things, like the venue or honeymoon.

DIY Decor

Wedding trends have turned from more formal and sophisticated ceremonies to more rustic and bohemian style celebrations. While each couple has their own style, it can be easy making DIY decorations to use in your wedding. Use old glass bottles as centerpieces during your ceremony, or make your own wooden sign. Creating your own decorations can be fun and give your wedding celebration a personal touch. Obviously, you can leave the big and important decorations to the professionals, but for the small centerpieces or decorations that may not be noticed by everyone, making them yourself can help you save some money.

Use Your Friends

If you have a huge friend base, or even if you have friends with hobbies, you can use them in your wedding (if they want, of course). Whether you know someone who enjoys doing photography or one of your friends is a DJ or a musical artist, you can uses your friends in your wedding. Not only will they be able to give your photos or music a more personal touch since they know you both, but they will likely give you a better deal than a professional vendor.

There are many ways to save on and for your wedding, from watching movies at home to cutting out the swan ice sculpture. It is important to think about what you truly need at your wedding and what you just want. Just be sure not to go into debt for your wedding, you want to be able to enjoy your lives after your wedding as well, so save some money and only get what is essential to your wedding.

Steps to Writing Your Own Vows

Your wedding day is a special day for you and the love of your life. There are many ways to make the day even more personal and special. Writing your own vows is one way to make sure that this day is as romantic and has as much meaning as possible.

Writing your own vows is not for everyone, and it is not a task that everyone is comfortable with. But if you want to give your wedding day an extra personal touch and start your marriage out with an spark of love, writing your own vows is a great way to accomplish this.

At Bohemia River Overlook, we love weddings. With three different venues locations to choose from on our property, you will likely find just what you need to make your wedding just want you imagined. We want to help you make your wedding day as flawless as possible. That is why we are offering you tips to writing your vows!

In our last blog, we talked about the reasons why you should write your own vows. Some of the reasons we gave on why you should write your own vows included how it makes them more personal, special, romantic, and that doing so can help strengthen your bond.

But today we are not talking about why you should write your own vows, today we are talking about how to write them. Writing your own vows can be stressful and nerve-wracking, especially for those who are not creative, don’t know how to get their point across, or those who are too critical of their own work. But everyone can write their own vows, it just may take longer for some than others.

In this blog, we are going to give you different tips on how to get started writing the best vows. If you are trying to write your own vows and need help, read on. We can help you master your vows, making them special and personal.

Settle on a Tone

Discussing the tone of the vows with your fiance before the wedding can help make writing them easier. Are you trying to make them cry or laugh? Are you telling a story about your love or making them more traditional and stating your promises for one another? Once you decide on a tone and format for your vows, it will be easier to get started and you won’t have to worry about your fiance making their vows funny while yours will bring the tears.

Pick How They Are First Shared

Are you going to read them to each other before the wedding day or keep them a secret until then? While it may seem weird to share them before the wedding day, some couples may choose to do this because of the fact that they want them to be more personal and share them with each other before everyone else gets to hear them. Couples can decide if they want the first time they hear each others vows to be at the wedding or by themselves. This is another important decision to make before you start writing.

Make Notes

If you don’t know where to start, write down notes about your relationship. When did your relationship start? How did you guys meet? When did you start dating? When did you take the big steps? Where you waiting for a proposal? What were some of the best memories? What is something special about your relationship? These little things can help you come up with the foundation for your vows and allow you to figure out what you want to talk about. Make a list of everything you know about your relationship and what really mattered to you. Think about the little things that meant so much to your relationship and add those into your vows.

Get Inspired

Take a look at examples of vows, listen to love songs, read poetry, and get inspired in other ways. These can help you get in the lovey-dovey spirit and truly write from the heart. You can even get more personal with the inspiration and look at old pictures of the two of you, read old love letters, and remember how you fell in love. This is a great way to get your head in the love story and vow writing thought process.

Think About Your Promises

Remember, vows are promises, so make sure you include a few promises in there, and really mean them. Do you promise to rub his feet after a long day at work? Do you promise to make her breakfast in bed once a week? Stick these in your vows and make sure you will actually do them!

Start Writing

Once you have your inspiration and have thought about how your love has grown, there is nothing left to do but write! Of course, there are step to take after writing it, but you have to have a first draft before you can get to the final draft. So, start writing your vows and try to imagine reading them out loud on your wedding day, that should help you know what to include and what not to.

In our next blog, we will discuss the steps after you write your vows. But for now, just start with this! You will be able to get started and create something that might actually work!

Pro Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping

Twinkling rope lights strung about, flowers displayed on every surface, gorgeously prepared meals and desserts, mason jar glasses, and cut chalkboard signs—these are the things that make up a wedding. The decor, the food, the drink, the setting, and the feeling are all planned out, down to every last detail. These things are important and will definitely make your wedding more special and beautiful, but one thing you should focus on more is your wedding dress.

We aren’t saying that brides don’t put a lot of thought or planning into their wedding dress. Many bride’s try on a ton of different dresses before picking the one. But wedding dresses are special and they are the one thing you will be wearing during the most important day of your life. You want your dress to be perfect. It should match your style, flatter your figure, and should look as though it was made for you, not the other way around.

Every woman has their own personal style. Every woman has their own figure and body shape. Every woman knows what she likes and all of these things is what should help you determine the dress you will get.

Wedding dress shopping can be stressful and overwhelming. It can be difficult to narrow down your options and pick just one. It can be hard to know if you are picking the right dress. And it can be stressful going through the entire process. On the day of your wedding, you may not care about what you are wearing, but that doesn’t mean you should wear any old dress. You still want this dress to be special and gorgeous, you want to feel like a goddess as you glide down the aisle.

But wedding dress shopping can also be exciting and one of the best parts about planning a wedding. You have been thinking about this dress for a long time, as a little girl you probably planned exactly how you wanted it to look. You may have looked through magazines to see the new styles and different designs, thinking about what you would be wearing one day as you walked down the aisle to the love of your life.

Now it is time to pick the wedding dress, for real. No more pretending, no more imagining, this is your time to finally pick the dress you will get married in! No pressure. In this blog, we are going to give you some tips to help you find the perfect wedding dress. Take a deep breath, relax, and keep reading.

Do Research

Looking at those magazines and Pinterest pictures of wedding dresses is finally paying off! By now, you probably have an idea of what you like and what you don’t like. You probably know what style you want and what kind of detailing you want. Do additional research and look at bridal dress websites to see what they have in stock, what styles are currently popular, and if there is anything that catches your eye.

On some sites, for example David’s Bridal, you can find dresses based on price, silhouette, sleeve type, size, color, and so much more. This allows you to search for what you like, keep within budget, and check out different styles as well. Seeing different styles and exploring through the wide variety of dress styles out there can help you be more open minded and find a few different styles you may like.

Be Open Minded

We know you have a dress in mind and we know you don’t even want to think about trying on different dresses, it will just open the door to so many more options. But looking at different dresses can help you find something you may not have known you liked and allow you to truly figure out what works best for you.

Stay True to Size

Every bride plans on losing weight before their wedding, but as your wedding gets closer, you may find that you are too stressed and overwhelmed with planning your wedding on top of everything else to even think about heading to the gym. Don’t start looking at wedding dresses that are too small for you because you hope to fit into it on your big day. Wedding dresses are often sized higher than your normal clothing, but this doesn’t matter and no one will know. The only thing you want to worry about is being able to fit into your wedding dress on the day of your wedding. It is easy to bring the dress in and if you do happen to lose weight before the wedding, bring it in to have it altered so that it fits as you want it to. But never get a smaller size and challenge yourself to fit into it, that is a challenge that you may not win.

Try Them All

While trying on every dress in the bridal shop is way too much, we do suggest trying on different silhouette styles, necklines, sleeves styles, fabrics, and colors than you originally wanted. Not only will this give you a taste of what is out there but it will also allow you to find what works with your body and what will flatter you most. Not everyone looks good in dresses that have a mermaid silhouette, just like not everyone will look good in a strapless dress. Trying on a variety of styles can help you to find what looks best on you and what style you should look for. Try on the silhouette that you like best, of course, but if it doesn’t look how you imagined, then try something else on. You may find that the one silhouette you thought you would hate ends up being the style that looks best on you!

There are many different dress styles out there and limiting yourself to try on one style is like going into the biggest ice cream shop and only sampling one flavor of ice cream. Who would do that? Not you! So, why tries on dresses that only fall into one style when there is a huge variety of dresses that you may be missing out on. You don’t know what dress is going to look best on you and you don’t know what dress is going to be the one.

Don’t Follow Trends

Trends are hard to avoid, especially when you see all of your friends getting married and wearing these trendy dresses, you are likely to try finding something similar. But don’t follow the trends just to be “trendy.” Find a dress you love, something timeless and classic is better than something that will go out of style in a few years. If you want to pass your dress down to your children or your nieces, you will want to be sure it is not outrageous by the time they get married. We have all seen those wedding dresses from the past that are too much now, but a wedding dress that has timeless elements while also using current style elements may be the perfect mix.

Don’t Rush

Picking your wedding dress is a big deal. You want it to be perfect, look great, and fit your style. You don’t want to make a rush decision and get a dress that you feel iffy about. Make sure you take your time, truly analyze each dress, and try on as many as you need. If you don’t like what you have been trying on, try switching up the dress style until you find something that you like.

You also do not want the bridal stylist to stop you from or push you to try on more. If you need to try on more to find your perfect dress, then keep trying on dresses. If you are getting overwhelmed and can’t try on any more dresses, don’t feel like you have to. There is no need to try on more dresses when you already have found one you like.

Try Multiple Shops

Not every bridal shop is going to have the style you are looking for. Some may be more formal while you have a boho chic vibe. If you don’t like what you are seeing at one shop don’t be afraid to head to another shop until you find one that has the style you are looking for.

Wedding dress shopping is fun but it can get stressful. But these tips can help make the entire process easier for you. Just remember that this is one thing you will wear on one of the most important days of your life, so make sure you find something that you love!
