Tips to Enjoying Your Wedding

After months of planning for your perfect dream wedding, the big day has finally arrived. This is the time when you can finally relax and enjoy all the hard work and planning your have put into your special day. However, it can be difficult to sit back and truly enjoy your wedding.

Many couples think that once the wedding starts, they will be able to sit back and enjoy the celebrations of their love, but that is easier said than done. You may notice every little detail that doesn’t turn out as planned and worry about how people are enjoying the reception. You may stress about the schedule delay or that the weather is not what you expected. Worrying about these minute details is pointless. The wedding is already planned and whatever happens is going to happen. As a couple, you need to figure out how to enjoy your special day.

We understand how hard it can be to be present, relaxed, and enjoy your wedding, but it is important. This is one day in your life that you should remember forever and that you should enjoy until the very end. In this blog, we will give you tips to enjoying and being present at your wedding; these may be the most important wedding tips you ever read!

Accept Mishaps

Not everything is going to go perfectly at your wedding. Something will happen that you cannot control and you need to learn to accept that. The sooner you realize that your wedding is not going to be perfect, no matter how much you plan, the sooner you will be able to enjoy your wedding. While it may be difficult, remind yourself throughout the wedding to go with the flow, don’t stress about things outside of your control, and don’t worry about the small details. Most of your guests won’t even notice that something went wrong, so you shouldn’t pay attention to it either!

Give Responsibility to Someone Else

Whether you make your maid of honor, the bridesmaids, or your mom help you out, putting someone else in charge can help you worry less about making sure everything runs smoothly and focus on enjoying the day. Delegate some help to round-up the wedding party for photos, help guests find their seats, and make sure everything sticks to your schedule. This will allow you to spend more time actually enjoying your wedding, talking to guests, and spending quality time with your new spouse. It may be hard to give someone else control, but it is important to do if you want to relax during your wedding.

Remember the Purpose

While you have planned your fancy and beautiful wedding for months, there is one purpose for this celebration, and it is important to remember what it is. With all the stress of planning, the excitement of the big day, and the worrying to make sure everything goes as planned, it can be easy to forget why you are there in the first place. Throughout the wedding, remind yourself to focus on the special moments between you and your loved one. These are the moments you want to remember forever. Allow yourself to focus all your attention on these moments as they happen.

When you or your partner are walking down the aisle, be all there. Focus on the way you feel, the way they look, the happiness that is filling your heart. This is not the time to worry about the weather or the music choice. You want to be 100 percent present and focused on these important moments during your wedding so that you can remember them forever. Pay attention to the vows you read to each other, your secret conversation during your first dance, and any other special moment the two of you share. This is the purpose of your wedding, not the guests or the centerpieces you spent hours choosing.

Stay Off Your Phone

Social media may have taken over every other aspect of your life, but do not let it take over your wedding. Stay off your phone and don’t feel the need to share this moment with anyone who is not there. In other words, stay present. You will want to make sure you are focused on your wedding and be present during the entire day. This will help you enjoy the day more and allow you to remember the smaller details. If you are on your phone, texting your friend who couldn’t make it, updating your Snapchat story, or posting on other social media accounts, you will not truly be paying attention to your wedding or enjoying it. This is your special day; don’t share it with everyone else.

Don’t Leave Last Minute Tasks

Relaxing before your wedding day is important to relaxing on your wedding day. Try to not leave any tasks to the week before your wedding. Make sure you have everything planned and done at least a few days before your wedding. You don’t want to be stressing during the days leading up to your wedding, so be sure you get everything figured out before hand. Spend the days leading up to your wedding relaxing and spending quality time with your soon-to-be spouse.

Take a Moment Alone

During your wedding, be sure to spend some quality time with your love. Take a moment to sneak away and just enjoy each other’s company. It is easy to give your guests all of the attention during your wedding, so be sure to take a step back and take a moment alone with your partner. This will help you remember the purpose of the day and reconnect with your new spouse.

Don’t Forget the Basics

People always joke about how you are so busy talking to your guests during your wedding that you are likely going to forget to eat. Don’t forget to eat and stay hydrated. “Hanger” is a real thing, and the longer you go without food, the more likely you will start getting more frustrated with little things and feel emotional. Make sure you take time to eat and drink. You spent a lot of time picking out the perfect menu, so enjoy it.

These are a few of the main tips you need to follow during your wedding to enjoy the celebration more. No wedding is perfect; accepting that is the first step. Be sure to take a moment alone with your spouse during the wedding. This is your day and you both need to reconnect and remember why you are having this wedding in the first place.

Planning Your Wedding Budget- Part One

As you plan your wedding, you may become overwhelmed with details, wanting to add a little bit of everything to create your dream wedding. Every couple wants the perfect wedding, with a spectacular venue, decorations that seem to be out of a fairytale, and a honeymoon that is better than anything you ever imagined. Seems doable, right? Perhaps it is if you have a huge budget.

Unfortunately, weddings can get pricey quickly and picking what really matters to you is important to staying within budget. The best way to make sure you get what you need and some of what you want without spending your entire life savings is to set a solid budget.

Setting a budget for a wedding is tricky because it is the first really big event you have likely planned. It is hard to know how much you can expect to pay or how quickly everything can add up. But don’t panic, we are going to help you learn a thing or two about creating a budget that will allow you to have a wedding you will love and fits what you want.

Know How Much You Have

The best place to start your wedding planning budget is to figure out how much you have to spend. Knowing how much you can spend can help you decide how much you want to and should spend. Ask your parents if they plan on contributing to the wedding and if so, how much. Whether you want them to just contribute money or pay for a certain aspect of the wedding is up to you, but knowing what they will contribute can help you decide what is left to spend. While you may have parents who are paying for the entire wedding, many couples choose to contribute some as well. Even if you do have parents paying for the entire thing, you will still want to set a budget so that your parents aren’t paying an excessive amount.

When you are taking a look at your savings and how much you want to spend, be sure you are not paying so much that it will set you back financially. If you want to put a little more money into your wedding, start a separate fund so that you don’t start using your actual savings. You can add to your wedding fund as the months go by and save up more than your budget so you have a little wiggle room.

Think About Your Wedding

Lists are always good, especially for a couple that begins to feel overwhelmed with the endless choices and planning duties. You want your wedding to be perfect, which is understandable, but you also don’t want to break the bank creating that wedding. Think about your dream wedding, down to every last detail, but don’t get excited and start planning even more. But knowing what you want can help you start planning around your budget.

As you think about the different aspects of your wedding, be sure to consider them piece by piece. Make a list of the things you need at your wedding and the things you want. What is really important to you? What can you maybe live without? What is not necessary to creating your perfect wedding? Making a list of what you really want can help you plan your budget accordingly and figure out how much you will spend on different aspects.

Break It Down

It is hard to know how much of your budget will go to one aspect of your wedding. How much should you use for the venue? How much of the budget will the ceremony take up? An article from The Knot, breaks it down for you, making it easier for you to figure out how much of your budget will go where. Here is the list they provide:

  • The reception will be about 48 to 50 percent of your wedding budget.
  • The ceremony will be about two to three percent of the budget.
  • Your wedding day attire should be about eight to ten percent.
  • The flowers will be about eight to ten percent of the budget.
  • The entertainment and music you schedule for your wedding will be about eight to ten percent.
  • The photography and/or videography should be about ten to 12 percent of your budget.
  • Wedding stationery will be about two to three percent.
  • The wedding rings will be about two to three percent.
  • If you are paying for parking or transportation, it will be about two to three percent.
  • Wedding gifts for your guests will be about two to three percent.
  • Any miscellaneous items will be about eight percent.

Don’t forget to budget in your honeymoon if you are planning that yourself. You don’t want you spend all the money on your wedding and have none left over to travel the world with your new spouse.

Keep Track

An article from Brides mentions the idea of starting a spreadsheet to help you keep track of your spendings. They suggest splitting it into three columns: estimated, modified, and actual. Take some time to do research for the different parts of your wedding and figure out how much they will cost on average, these prices will go under the estimated. Once you start contacting the florist, caterer, and vendors, the proposals they give you will be in the modified column. And obviously, the final amount you pay goes in the actual column. It is also a good idea to add a line for “extra” costs, giving you a little wiggle room for things you are likely to forget. It is always a good idea to add a cushion, just make sure you don’t spend it before you need it.

These are some of the first steps to creating your budget. In part two, we will give you more tips to planning the perfect wedding budget! Reasons to Write Your Own Vows

Wedding vows are such a special part of a marriage. They are promises that you make to your loved one, letting them know what they can expect during your life together. This promise is not just words, it has meaning and purpose in your new relationship as a married couple. In the past, people would read a pre-written vow from the church, but slowly others have started writing their own or finding a vow online that hits home for them.

While there is no wrong way to do your vows, we are going to talk about writing your own vows today. While it may not be for everyone, writing your own vows is special and can make your wedding even more meaningful.

At Bohemia River Overlook, we love weddings. They are so much more than a big party to celebrate the union of two people in love. They are a beautiful and special party with personal touches, deep connections, and a first hand witness of true love.

But one thing that can make these beautiful ceremonies even more special for you and your loved one is writing your own vows. There are many reasons why writing your own vows can make your wedding and marriage even more meaningful.

In this blog, we will go over the benefits of writing your own vows! Read now and start working on your vows!

They Are Personal

Writing your own vows allows you to put personal touches in them and make them catered more toward you both as a couple. There are many beautiful pre-written vows out there that some people may find perfect for them, but a vow is something special. It is a promise to your spouse that no one else can make. It should come from the heart and writing your own will make it personal and they will know you put effort into it and that it truly did come from the heart.

You want the love of your life to hear your vows and know that you wrote it just for them. Writing your own vows allow you to put meaning behind the words, rather than just stating some generic sentence. You can add nicknames, inside jokes, and other things they will remind them of the good times you have had, allowing them to be super personal.

They Have Meaning

When you take the time to write your own vows for your wedding day, you will be thinking about what your love means to you and what you want to promise them. You will think about what you have been through, what you want with your soon-to-be-spouse, and you will put meaning behind each and every word. They will be able to tell that your vow is genuine. We aren’t saying that using a pre-written vow is isn’t genuine, but they will be able to feel the meaning behind each word when you write your own vows. Referencing certain events, inside jokes, or even nicknames you have for each other can help show that meaning even more.

They Are Romantic

These are the words you want to say to your love bug. These are the words to describe how you love them, how you will show your love, and how you want to spend the rest of your life with them. If that isn’t romantic, we don’t know what is. These personal and meaningful vows will allow you to tell each other your true feelings and get on a deeper level. Many couples do not get this deep often, and doing so on your wedding day is super romantic and intimate.

They Can Strengthen Your Bond

Well, obviously your bond is pretty strong since you are about to get married. But reading each other your vows in front of all of your friends and family allows the two of you to have a very intimate and meaningful moment in the middle of a large ceremony. This special connection is something that will just strengthen your love and make the feelings in that moment even stronger. This is a special experience to share with someone, a declaration of love and a promise that everyone can witness but only your love will understand and feel. It is like writing a love some for someone—everyone gets to enjoy the words but only the person the song is written for truly knows the meaning behind each word.

They Can Be Kept

When you write your own vows, you will most likely keep them. There are many things you can do with them after your wedding. You can display them in a beautiful picture frame with a wedding picture in the center. This is a great way to display your love and the vows, as well as show of your favorite wedding picture. This can serve as a daily reminder what you promised to each other and the love your have for one another. You could also put the vows away, only to take them out during a big fight or your first fight. Pull these out and read them to each other or to yourselves. This is a good reminder that no fight is worth sacrificing the love your have for one another. It can help you think about the good times rather than the fight and allow you to resolve things faster. You could also keep your vows in a special spot until your fifth, 10th, or 25th wedding anniversary. Take them out and read them. Laugh about the inside jokes that you shared in them and remember how special your wedding day truly was. This is a great way to reconnect and fall in love all over again.

At Bohemia River Overlook, we work hard to make sure your wedding goes as perfectly as possible. We want you to remember this day as the day that started the rest of your life. Our three venues can help create the perfect setting for you and your love to read your vows to one another. Schedule a tour today and start writing your vows!

The Types of Veils

The veil has a long history and a strange tradition. According to Bustle, in ancient Roman times, brides were covered from head-to-toe with a flame colored veil, which was used to scare away evil spirits. The veil was also meant to help stop them from running away, which was an actual concern. An article from Brides, also mentions that veils represented that brides were modest and untouched.

While veils may have a strange past, they are still a huge part of bridal and wedding culture today, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon! In this blog, we are going to give a quick review of the different veil types and styles you may choose at your wedding.

The Cathedral Veil

This is a formal veil and is great for grand and beautiful ceremonies. These veils are generally two and a half meters or longer, often being longer than the train of the dress. These veils often offer a lot of detail as well.

The Chapel Veil

Chapel veils are also very traditional and more formal. They are long enough to reach to ground but are not as long as the cathedral veils. These veils offer a look of elegance without the super traditional look of a cathedral veil.

The Waltz Veil

These veils fall between the bride’s knees and ankles, without touching the floor. These veils are beautiful and great for brides who want the long veil but also the ability to move around freely. Unfortunately, with the chapel and cathedral veils, it is more difficult to move around.

Fingertip Veil

Fingertip veils are one of a few veils in the short veil category, and the most popular. These veils are sophisticated and still offer some length that many brides want, but without having to worry about tripping over it or getting it caught on anything. These veils are elegant and sophisticated and great for weddings that are formal but not overly formal.

Birdcage Veil

While there are many other types of veils, this is one that is popular, retro, and unique, so we will end with this veil! The birdcage veil gives a vintage and, somehow, more modern look. Paired with a fun hairstyle and bold makeup, this veil can add a lot to a bride’s look!

Flower Crown

This is not a veil, but it has made a huge impact in the wedding industry recently. Flower crowns are perfect for boho brides and more laid back weddings. We love this look but it certainly isn’t for everyone.

Veils are a fun and traditional bridal accessory. There is a veil (or flower crown) for every bride and every wedding style. Many people get the full bridal feel when they finally try on their dress with a veil.

Pro Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping

Twinkling rope lights strung about, flowers displayed on every surface, gorgeously prepared meals and desserts, mason jar glasses, and cut chalkboard signs—these are the things that make up a wedding. The decor, the food, the drink, the setting, and the feeling are all planned out, down to every last detail. These things are important and will definitely make your wedding more special and beautiful, but one thing you should focus on more is your wedding dress.

We aren’t saying that brides don’t put a lot of thought or planning into their wedding dress. Many bride’s try on a ton of different dresses before picking the one. But wedding dresses are special and they are the one thing you will be wearing during the most important day of your life. You want your dress to be perfect. It should match your style, flatter your figure, and should look as though it was made for you, not the other way around.

Every woman has their own personal style. Every woman has their own figure and body shape. Every woman knows what she likes and all of these things is what should help you determine the dress you will get.

Wedding dress shopping can be stressful and overwhelming. It can be difficult to narrow down your options and pick just one. It can be hard to know if you are picking the right dress. And it can be stressful going through the entire process. On the day of your wedding, you may not care about what you are wearing, but that doesn’t mean you should wear any old dress. You still want this dress to be special and gorgeous, you want to feel like a goddess as you glide down the aisle.

But wedding dress shopping can also be exciting and one of the best parts about planning a wedding. You have been thinking about this dress for a long time, as a little girl you probably planned exactly how you wanted it to look. You may have looked through magazines to see the new styles and different designs, thinking about what you would be wearing one day as you walked down the aisle to the love of your life.

Now it is time to pick the wedding dress, for real. No more pretending, no more imagining, this is your time to finally pick the dress you will get married in! No pressure. In this blog, we are going to give you some tips to help you find the perfect wedding dress. Take a deep breath, relax, and keep reading.

Do Research

Looking at those magazines and Pinterest pictures of wedding dresses is finally paying off! By now, you probably have an idea of what you like and what you don’t like. You probably know what style you want and what kind of detailing you want. Do additional research and look at bridal dress websites to see what they have in stock, what styles are currently popular, and if there is anything that catches your eye.

On some sites, for example David’s Bridal, you can find dresses based on price, silhouette, sleeve type, size, color, and so much more. This allows you to search for what you like, keep within budget, and check out different styles as well. Seeing different styles and exploring through the wide variety of dress styles out there can help you be more open minded and find a few different styles you may like.

Be Open Minded

We know you have a dress in mind and we know you don’t even want to think about trying on different dresses, it will just open the door to so many more options. But looking at different dresses can help you find something you may not have known you liked and allow you to truly figure out what works best for you.

Stay True to Size

Every bride plans on losing weight before their wedding, but as your wedding gets closer, you may find that you are too stressed and overwhelmed with planning your wedding on top of everything else to even think about heading to the gym. Don’t start looking at wedding dresses that are too small for you because you hope to fit into it on your big day. Wedding dresses are often sized higher than your normal clothing, but this doesn’t matter and no one will know. The only thing you want to worry about is being able to fit into your wedding dress on the day of your wedding. It is easy to bring the dress in and if you do happen to lose weight before the wedding, bring it in to have it altered so that it fits as you want it to. But never get a smaller size and challenge yourself to fit into it, that is a challenge that you may not win.

Try Them All

While trying on every dress in the bridal shop is way too much, we do suggest trying on different silhouette styles, necklines, sleeves styles, fabrics, and colors than you originally wanted. Not only will this give you a taste of what is out there but it will also allow you to find what works with your body and what will flatter you most. Not everyone looks good in dresses that have a mermaid silhouette, just like not everyone will look good in a strapless dress. Trying on a variety of styles can help you to find what looks best on you and what style you should look for. Try on the silhouette that you like best, of course, but if it doesn’t look how you imagined, then try something else on. You may find that the one silhouette you thought you would hate ends up being the style that looks best on you!

There are many different dress styles out there and limiting yourself to try on one style is like going into the biggest ice cream shop and only sampling one flavor of ice cream. Who would do that? Not you! So, why tries on dresses that only fall into one style when there is a huge variety of dresses that you may be missing out on. You don’t know what dress is going to look best on you and you don’t know what dress is going to be the one.

Don’t Follow Trends

Trends are hard to avoid, especially when you see all of your friends getting married and wearing these trendy dresses, you are likely to try finding something similar. But don’t follow the trends just to be “trendy.” Find a dress you love, something timeless and classic is better than something that will go out of style in a few years. If you want to pass your dress down to your children or your nieces, you will want to be sure it is not outrageous by the time they get married. We have all seen those wedding dresses from the past that are too much now, but a wedding dress that has timeless elements while also using current style elements may be the perfect mix.

Don’t Rush

Picking your wedding dress is a big deal. You want it to be perfect, look great, and fit your style. You don’t want to make a rush decision and get a dress that you feel iffy about. Make sure you take your time, truly analyze each dress, and try on as many as you need. If you don’t like what you have been trying on, try switching up the dress style until you find something that you like.

You also do not want the bridal stylist to stop you from or push you to try on more. If you need to try on more to find your perfect dress, then keep trying on dresses. If you are getting overwhelmed and can’t try on any more dresses, don’t feel like you have to. There is no need to try on more dresses when you already have found one you like.

Try Multiple Shops

Not every bridal shop is going to have the style you are looking for. Some may be more formal while you have a boho chic vibe. If you don’t like what you are seeing at one shop don’t be afraid to head to another shop until you find one that has the style you are looking for.

Wedding dress shopping is fun but it can get stressful. But these tips can help make the entire process easier for you. Just remember that this is one thing you will wear on one of the most important days of your life, so make sure you find something that you love!

If you are still looking for a wedding venue, be sure to schedule a visit with Bohemia River Overlook. Our venue offers three different locations that can compliment your wedding theme and style. Planning your wedding is simpler with Bohemia River Overlook and these wedding dress tips!

Planning A Country Wedding

There are so many different wedding styles and themes, allowing couples to find the perfect style wedding that represents who they are and what they like. Finding the right style for your wedding shouldn’t be too difficult, but always remember to stick with what fits you and what makes sense for you and your soon-to-be spouse.

Whether you have both loved the beach your entire life or you’re both obsessed with Harry Potter, you can create a wedding based around your style, interests, and passions. The themes and styles for weddings truly are endless, it is just finding the right style for you that may be the hard part.

Today we are going to talk about a specific wedding themes that have become popular. The rustic country style is a current wedding trend that is charming, fun, and beautiful. Creating the perfect country wedding takes a lot of planning, everything from the invitations to the bouquet can have a touch of country style.

In this blog, we will give you tips to planning the perfect rustic country wedding, down to every last detail! If you are planning your own country wedding, continue reading to get the best ideas to complete every last detail.

The Venue

Let’s start with the venue. Having all of the details and everything planned out perfectly will help complete your wedding, but if the venue does not have the same rustic country look the rest of your wedding has, something will feel off. So, make sure you find the right venue for your rustic country wedding and then finish planning from there. There are a few options for the country wedding venue. Outdoors in the mountains, in a peaceful field that stretches across to horizon, or at a cute and rustic barn. Country themed weddings are obviously going to have some outdoorsy and rugged style, a barn is the perfect option because it allows you to have a strong country vibe and the ability to move the party indoors as well.

At Bohemia River Overlook, one of our three locations is the barn. This venue is perfect to complete your country inspired look. The burnt red exterior provides a beautiful and bold backdrop for your ceremony. This classic colored barn doesn’t look too worn out, but looks rustic enough to add some character to your wedding. The bricks, red siding, and green roof of the barn all work together to create the perfect country wedding venue. This is the perfect location for a small and intimate country wedding. This venue is able to hold 120 people, and includes everything necessary for a fun and comfortable ceremony and reception. This includes:

  • Up to 120 padded chairs for the ceremony
  • Up to 6 café tables
  • Up to 120 wood chairs for reception
  • Built-in bar
  • 15 guest tables for reception
  • 5 rectangular tables

The venue and everything that is included can help transform your dreams of a rustic country wedding into reality and help make the planning process easier for you! This wedding venue has a special chic style that will add a charming and rustic look to your special day.

The Invitations

You want your country themed wedding to have a touch of country from beginning to end. This means that the invitations should have a hint of country as well. Wedding invitations may not be the most important part but they certainly can be fun and fit the theme. Add natural detailing to your invitations to give them a more rustic look. Don’t make them too flashy or fancy, it will throw off the rustic country theme. You can even have some fun with shapes. Create an invitation shaped like a cowboy boot, a bale of hay, or barn doors. These ideas are cute, creative, and help your guest know what your wedding theme is.

The Decor

Decorations are an important part of a wedding. They can help tie everything together and add even more country style to your wedding celebration. Country weddings are fun and easy to decorate for. What you have to do before you start decorating is pick an exact style for your country wedding. There are many different country decor styles, and mixing them all up can get chaotic and confusing. So, stick to one uniform style and then start planning your decorations.

Your decorations should include natural elements—plants, flowers, hay bales, antlers, and even natural colors can help to add to your country wedding. Intermix these elements with things like mason jars, galvanized buckets, burlap placemats, and other rustic and barn like items. These elements combined will create the perfect scene for your rustic country celebration.

Handmade chalkboard signs, natural wood picture frames, lanterns, and plenty of string lights can give your country theme an extra pop. Every good country wedding uses string lights to give a nice and calming glow, plus thaey are beautiful and add a ton of style.

The Food

Yes, you can even design your wedding menu to match the country style. Ribs, baked beans, fried chicken, biscuits, pulled pork sandwiches, steak and potatoes, corn on the cob, and any other favorite country themed food options. The food can also help set the tone of your wedding and allow people to really get into the country spirit! Plus, who doesn’t love these classic country barbecue food options?

The Cake

The cake can also be decorated in a country style. With a natural and outdoorsy look, your cake can tie the entire reception together. These cakes can be fun, gorgeous, and simple. A cake with flowers, tree bark detailing, and other rustic touches are a beautiful way to transform a regular wedding cake into something that adds to the overall theme of your celebration.

The Altar

The altar at your wedding is the backdrop for the most memorable moment and gorgeous photos of the newly married couple. This means that the altar should be planned out and designed to match your style. Use cloth, flowers, natural wood, lights, twigs, and other rustic elements to create an alter that is unique and has a country feel to it. This is a great way to mix the country style with something elegant as well, giving the outdoorsy theme a classic flair.

The Attire

The wedding party’s attire can also help bring more country style to your wedding. Having fun with different country and outdoorsy styles can add to the look of the bridesmaids and the groomsmen, tying the entire theme together. There are many different way to do this, either with colors, shoe choice of accessories. It can be simple to enhance your wedding day attire with these country styles.

For the bride and bridesmaids, there are many fun things that can add to the country theme. Have your bridesmaids wear flannels over their dresses for a style accessory that really gives of the rustic outdoors feel. Or give them a personalized gift by getting each bridesmaid an embroidered denim button down.  Cowboy boots is another great way to add to the country style. Swapping out the heels for boots is a great way to keep the theme spread throughout the entire wedding. You can even wear blue boots to represent your “something blue” and have all of your bridesmaid wear boots as well.

For the groom, a cowboy hat is always an option, but not every groom is going to be that into the country theme. But other styles that can give them a more rugged and country style include jeans, a tan suede jacket, tweed vests, and, if they are really feeling bold, a bolo tie! These are fun and simple ways to give the groom and groomsmen a country look. And of course cowboy boots can be worn by them as well.

The attire can help give your wedding an even more country feel. If you show up to your country themed wedding without any hint of country style, your guest will be confused and you will look out of place.

Planning a Non-Traditional Wedding

The world of weddings is always changing and in the past few years we have seen changes that are dramatic and brilliant. Couples are stepping away from the traditional wedding and planning ceremonies and receptions that are catered more toward what they like and their personal style. Boho weddings, country weddings, simple weddings, and themed weddings have become popular. While we have seen weddings like this for a couple of years, they are becoming better each year.

Couples are realizing that they don’t have to follow traditions, that they don’t have to stick with what everyone else does, and that they can create a wedding that they will truly enjoy. It is a smart way to go about planning a wedding. It is no lie that weddings are expensive, so why not make it something special and meaningful?

A wedding is meant to celebrate the union of a couple, and while there are many different traditional and meanings behind many elements of a wedding, you don’t need to follow those traditions. Make your wedding your own, make it something that nobody has ever experienced before. Just last year, a couple spent a week climbing up parts of Mount Everest to get married in that breathtaking location. Destination weddings are also becoming bigger, but we like the idea of saving the destination for the honeymoon.

This is the beauty of weddings, you can do whatever you really want. It can be fun but stressful planning your wedding, and this is why it is so important to plan something you will love and are looking forward to. Don’t plan something you will hate just because your mom wants you to have a traditional wedding. Don’t plan a wedding based off of Pinterest wedding photos. Plan a wedding that you want and are excited about. It will make the day even more special and allow your guests to know more about the happy couple’s style.

Weddings have also moved out of the church and into more natural locations. Outdoor weddings have become the current trend in the wedding world, and we are all for it! The beautifully colored trees, snow capped mountains, and even beaches make the perfect backdrop. Some people are even braving the cold and marrying outside in the middle of winter, with snow all around and colder temperatures. We know that not everyone would happily get married in the snow, but it sure does make for some beautiful photos.

If you are about to be planning a wedding, Bohemia River Overlook can help. Our outdoor wedding venues and vineyard may be the perfect location for your ceremony. With three different locations to choose from, you can find the one that best matches your style and what you are looking for. The barn offers a chic and relaxed venue for a wedding. The beach can provide you a waterfront backdrop with a majestic pier accenting the water.  For those who want a fairytale wedding, the manor is the location for you. This outdoor location is surrounded by vibrant green trees and displays a reflective pool and gorgeous fountain, creating a Cinderella like venue.

Our venue is unique and offers breathtaking views. With different locations to choose from, you are likely to find a wedding venue that will fit your style. Planning the rest of your wedding will be easy once the venue is selected. In the rest of this blog, we will give you some tips on planning a wedding that is unique and fits with your style as a couple.

Colors

While the colors of your wedding are not the most important thing, they will help create a uniform look throughout your wedding. Colors should not be hard to select, it is as simple as finding a color palette that the two of your love. They should match the theme of your wedding and add to the overall look and feel of  your wedding. Deep colors, like burgundy, navy blue, and plum can create a beautiful and vivid color pallette but is dark enough to be subtle and calm. A light blue, beige, and light pink can be lovely and add a slight touch of color to a more natural wedding. For a beach wedding try a dark teal, light blue, and brown color. You can even add a peach or salmon color in to add a splash of something brighter.

For more examples of color trends that could be perfect for your wedding, check out this article from Magnetstreet. A few things to think about when choosing your color pallette include the venue, the time of year, the style of the wedding, and the colors you want for tuxedos and bridesmaid dresses. Once you find the colors you want, you can get started on other wedding plans!

The Dress

The wedding dress is another thing that is become less and less traditional. One wedding dress style that has recently made its way into the industry is not a dress at all. The pantsuit and jumper wedding dress is the perfect wedding day style for those women who are not a fan of dresses or simply want something unique. These pantsuits or jumpers can be elegant, classy, and simply stunning. These wedding styles can be simple or elaborate with unique detailing. This have become a popular trend that we absolutely love! Wedding dresses, especially traditional wedding dresses, are not for everyone and now we finally have some different options! These jumpers and pantsuits can be long or short, adorn with an overskirt, a faux fur wrap, or a jacket, and can create a completely unique look. This style isn’t any less elegant or feminine, rather it just gives women another option.

Wedding jumpers and pantsuits are not the only wedding dress trend that is becoming more and more popular. Colorful wedding dresses are also becoming more widely worn. While the white wedding dress is traditional, some people do not want the traditional wedding. Wedding dresses with accent colors or full color are gorgeous and offer something else that will make your wedding more unique and create a bridal look that is one of a kind. Many people may be uncertain about the colorful wedding dress, but it is a great way to create a wedding that is 100 percent your style. A colorful wedding dress is fun, daring, and gorgeous.

These different styles may not replace the wedding dress all together, but they sure will be making a huge statement during the 2018 weddings. If you are sick of white dresses and want something unique and exciting, try a wedding jumper or a colored wedding dress.

Decor

While some people may spend thousands on decorations for an elegant and perfect wedding, we know that not everyone needs that. DIY decorations are simple and can be just as beautiful as other decorations. Spray paint glass bottles that you collect over a few months with a gold or silver spray paint, and add some flowers or lights inside to create beautiful centerpieces. Make a menu with a chalkboard and some fun and fancy writing. Create a backdrop with lights, fake flowers, tissues paper, or just about anything else. You don’t have to overspend on decorations, spend time with your fiance and work on these DIY decorations together, it could be a fun way for your guys to spend time together and save money while you are at it! Get some ideas for DIY decorations from HGTV and The Knot!

Activities

While dancing is always one of the best wedding activities (especially when there is an open bar), there are so many other fun and creative activities to incorporate into your wedding. Yard games, like cornhole, ladder ball, and even badminton, can all be fun additions to your wedding. These games can keep your younger guests entertained and can be an easy way to get the two families mingling. Especially if your wedding is in the middle of the day, these games could be a great options.

There are other fun activities that could make your wedding more entertaining for all, including photo booths, interactive food stations, bride and groom trivia, and other activities like this. These can add a different element to your wedding that can make your guests enjoy it more and make it more memorable.

Dessert

When it comes to weddings, the sweet treat is generally a wedding cake. And while wedding cakes can be gorgeous, elegant, and delicious, some people are not big cake fans. Switch up the dessert with a sweet treat that is unique, simple, and gets everyone excited. Try a sundae bar that allows guest to create their own sunday. Have an assortment of cookies, cake pops, ice cream treats, donuts, candy, and fruit to offer a little bit of everything to your guests. While wedding cakes may be the traditional dessert, there are so many different options that you can add to your wedding to offer guests desserts that you love and that they will love.

There are many other aspects of a wedding that can be altered to add a unique and creative touch. Weddings no longer have to be traditional, they can be fun, daring, exciting, and completely one of a kind. Don’t be afraid to plan a wedding that is different from anything you have ever seen before. The Groom’s Guide To Wedding Planning

We often discuss wedding planning, what the bride should do to make sure everything is perfect, and how to bride can prepare for her perfect day. But what we forget from time to time is that a marriage is a partnership, and the groom is involved in this celebration as well. Will the bride may be the main planner throughout the wedding, the groom must help as well.

As your wedding day draws closer and the plan begin to finalize, you better make sure you are pulling you weight! If you leave your soon-to-be wife alone to make all of the plans, she will drive herself crazy, be overly stressed out, and she might even start to hate you. Now you don’t want that, do you? You want to show her that you can be there during stressful moments and work with her to create something wonderful and beautiful. While she may still be making all of the decisions, it is important for your to be there, helping her whenever she needs it, allowing her to destress, and pulling your weight.

Planning a wedding is hard work, and since most men have not been planning their dream wedding since they were 12, it is most likely harder for the grooms. But you must help, trust us when we say that, even if it is as simple and licking the envelopes and picking the cake flavor. Your lady will appreciate the effort and notice all the help you are providing.

But what should you do? How should you help and how can you help in the best ways possible? In this blog, we will give your some tips, creating the groom’s guide to wedding planning. Read on to get help before the big day!

Let’s start with the basics. After getting down on one knee and spilling your heart to the love of your life, the wedding planning will begin before you can even get back on your feet. Start as simple as possible and work your way down the list, it will help you and her see what is getting done and what needs to be done. The list might look long, but once you get started on the easy items, you can cross them out and make the list more manageable.

The Date

The date is not really important, unless you want the day you get married to have some special significance, such as your first kiss or the first day you met. If the date does not really matter to either of you, simply decide the date based on the type of weather you want during your wedding. Obviously you can’t plan for the weather but a summer wedding will most likely ensure you are getting married on a nice and warm day—winter weddings, not so much. Pick a day and have it set. Or at least pick the month, the actual date may have to wait until after the venue is selected, based on their availabilities.

The Venue

Yes, a backyard wedding would be easier, but you have had three birthday parties, a graduation party, and an engagement party in that backyard. Pick something special and different for your wedding. Your soon-to-be wife is most likely going to want a venue that is gorgeous, unique, and something other than your backyard. A great place to start looking for venues is Bohemia River Overlook in Maryland. Our venue offers three different locations on the property, allowing for you and your lady (mostly her) to pick the perfect look and feel you want for your wedding.

If she wants a wedding that is extravagant, romantic, and takes on the feel of a fairytale, the manoris a great location to check out. The waterfront views, formal garden, along with the reflective pool and fountain give this location a charming and elegant feel. This is a great location for a wedding that has a little bit of everything.

The beach location at our venue and vineyard is perfect for a more relaxed but extremely romantic wedding setting. With a private beach, beautiful pier, and a calming water backdrop, this is an ideal location for the beach lovers. The secluded area creates a wedding space that is intimate and gorgeous.

If you are looking for something a little more unique and laid back, the barn location may be the one. The bold read barn make for a beautiful backdrop, perfect for the country chic wedding. If you don’t know what country chic is, you can ask your soon-to-be wife. This is a great space for a unique and fun wedding. The barn can help create the charming but relaxed celebration that your fiancée has been dreaming of.

No matter which location you choose at Bohemia River Overlook, you can’t go wrong. We also offer wedding packages, which include the venue for six hours, tables, chairs, and linens, flatware and glassware, a specialty bar, and so much more! You will receive a list of our favorite vendors, which can help you decide everything from the music to photo booths. This can help make your wedding planning much easier.

Whatever you and your lady are wanting for your wedding venue, Bohemia River Overlook can help you find the perfect location and package!

Guest List

Don’t just hand your soon-to-be wife a list of your closest friends and family members that you want at your wedding. Sit down and help her plan out the guest list. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to be invited and get hard to choose who makes the list and who does not. Leaving this task for your financée to do be herself is a cruel thing to do. She won’t be able to invite some of her cousins and not others, she will need help deciding with friends make the cut, and which she should expect to not show up. This is a task you both need to do together. Sit down and talk it out, making and finalizing a list will be hard, but when you do it together she will be relieved and you can both decide who makes the list.

Take Care of the Groom Stuff

Make sure you are taking care of your own stuff through the wedding planning. Don’t wait for your fiancée to tell you what to do or decide things for you. Take matters into your own hands, at least when it comes to the groom’s to-to list.

Pick out your groomsmen carefully. While it is just fine to invite all of your rowdy buddies to stand by your side on your wedding day, make sure your best man is not the rowdiest of them all. Remember, he will most likely have to give a speech and you don’t want your brand new wife holding a grudge because your best man made an inappropriate speech. Pick your best man carefully and make sure you invite the brothers to be your groomsmen, both your brothers and hers.

Get your tux taken care of without your fiancée reminding you several times. It will just cause her more stress. Make sure you get it fitted way before the wedding so that it is done in time, and make sure you get something she will like. Don’t go overly colorful or unique, unless of course that is the plan that you both have decided on. Ask your soon-to-be wife what the color scheme is going to be and plan accordingly. It is okay to add touches of color if they match the colors picked. You will also want to make sure your groomsmen have matching tuxes as well.

Writing your vows is another task that the groom must take care of. This is a great way to express your love for your lady, just spill your heart out onto that paper and read it during the ceremony. Sounds easy enough, right? Unfortunately, this can actually be more difficult than writing college essays. You have to explain your love for someone else, in front of family and friends. Writer’s block tends to kick in when writing vows, but here are a few tips to make it easier: write simply, do not try getting overly creative or romantic, make it personal, speak honestly, and say what you feel. You don’t want to go over the top with a Shakespearean love sonnet. Remember that she knows you better than most people, she will know if you are trying too hard to sound romantic or is you actually mean what you say.

Show Her Love

While there are many more wedding plans to make and help your fiancée with, we will start with the simple tasks as well as one of the most important things to do during wedding planning—loving your lady. She will be stressed, nervous, anxious, and everything else, all while feeling overwhelmingly happy and in love. She will need you there to make sure she doesn’t lose her mind trying to pick a wedding cake flavor. Show her love, spend time with her without making a single wedding plan, and help her remember why she is planning such an intricate party. Being there for her and helping her with whatever she needs is one of the most important things you can do. After all, this is now a partnership, pull your weight, help her plan, and make sure to never stop loving her throughout the planning process.

This is a simple and quick grooms guide. In a future blog, we will give you more tips and tricks to planning your wedding. Start with the simple decisions and keep moving forward from there, it will help. Being part of the planning process is important and will allow you and your fiancée to work through the problems together, as you should. Start by contacting Bohemia River Overlook to schedule a visit to see our venue and our beautiful locations and learn more about our packages.

The Importance of a Hair And Makeup Trial

There are many things you need to do to plan your wedding, we covered some of the most important things in our Planning Your Wedding blogs, part one and part two. But even after you have planned more of your wedding, there is still a ton of planning that needs to be done to complete the perfect bridal look. You (and your significant other) are the center of attention, meaning you want your look to be absolutely flawless.

There is a lot that goes into a wedding day look. From the dress and shoes to something old, new, borrowed, and blue, the brides look has to be planned out from head to toe. So before getting the pedicure, be sure to plan out the hair style and makeup you want on your wedding day. But don’t wait until the day of to have someone work your hair into a twisting and curling masterpiece. Getting a makeup and hair trial is important, even if it may seem like a waste of money.

Making sure your wedding goes off without a hitch means you have to have the perfect venues, the best vendors, and everything planned out, including your hair. At Bohemia River Overlook, we can help make sure the rest of your wedding goes smoothly, so that on your big day all you have to worry about is celebrating with the love of your life and your families. But it may be hard to have fun when your hair looks like a wasp’s nest and your makeup makes you look like you are in a rock band.

This is why it is so important to get a makeup and hair trial before your big day. You don’t want to end up hating the way you look and have to remember every time you look at pictures. You want to look better than you ever have, better than your significant other has ever seen you.

There are many things that can go wrong if you wait until the day of your wedding to finally get your hair and makeup done. In this blog, we are going to go over the importance of getting a hair and makeup trial done. Keep reading if you still need convincing!

Better Ideas

You may have been picturing your hair in a loose wave with half of it pulled back in beautiful braids. This look is great for a boho bridal look, but it may look terrible on some brides. Depending on your dress, your face shape, and many other factors, this half updo could not be everything that you imagined it to be.

You will only know this if you have a trail run. Heading to a trial before your big day can help you to determine if your dream look is actually a good look for you. And if it is not, you can always try another style. This will help you find the hairstyle you actually want for your wedding, the look that will help you look like the most beautiful bride you can be!

Even if you hair doesn’t look awful in your dream look, it might not look as good as another style would with your dress. You can always show the hair stylist the hairdo you are thinking about and the style of your dress. They have been in this business for some time, so they will know if your hair will look good with your dress style and offer different options that may look better.

Not You

The most important thing to keep in mind during your wedding day look is that you still want to look like you. If your boyfriend has seen you makeup free for five years, showing up with a pound of makeup on your face, dark eyeshadow, and ruby red lips, he may not even know it is you. While you still want to look beautiful and better than ever, be real with yourself and keep your signature look.

If you in fact have not worn more than mascara for the past three years, choose some light makeup that will still show up in pictures but not be over the top in person. He will love that you kept it real and didn’t go with a look that is completely not you just for your wedding.

Not only will he not be used to seeing you with dramatic makeup, but you may also hate it. This is why you head in for a trial before the big day. You can try out different styles and see what works for your, your style, and the look you want. If you start out light, you can always go darker until you find the perfect makeup level for you. Just remember, if you go dark on your wedding day, it may be difficult to undo what has been done. Figure out how dramatic and bold you want your makeup to be before the big day.

The Right Stylist

Not only can a trial run help you to find the right hairstyle and makeup for your big day, but it can also help you find the perfect stylist. You may try a stylist and absolutely hate the way she does your makeup or perhaps she is not as experienced as you thought she was. Getting a trial run can help you to single out the perfect stylist for you.

Not only can you weed out the less talented stylists, but you can also find the one the works with your budget and knows how to create the style you want. Some stylists may be better at updos, while others may be better at the makeup. This will help you determine the right stylist for you. Maybe you care more about your makeup being flawless, then you would want to pick a stylist that can create you dream bridal look. If you care more about the updo that look effortless but gorgeous, you will want to find the stylist that know how to work hair perfectly.

Getting your hair and makeup done the day of the wedding will definitely add major stress to a day that is supposed to be perfect. Your hair may not turn out as planned and you may have looked better without any makeup at all. Getting a trial run for your hair and makeup can help you know exactly what you are getting and allow you to relax knowing that you won’t look like a band member.

Planning your hair and makeup is just one step in the bridal look, but it is a major step. Once your wedding look is complete, you can relax knowing that your wedding will go smoothly, because you chose Bohemia River Overlook as the venue for your wedding. We will help you wedding go smoothly, learn more now and contact us today! And be sure you plan your hair and makeup trial.

Planning Your Wedding- Part 2

Wedding planning takes so much time and effort that you can hire someone to do it. But if you are the type that wants to plan your own wedding, you will need to make sure you get everything checked off your list before the wedding.

In our previous blog, we discussed a few of the many things that you need to plan for your wedding. We went over planning the time, day, venue, and vendors for the wedding, selecting the wedding party, picking your dress, and sending invitations. As mentioned in the previous blog, Bohemia River Overlook can help you create the perfect wedding. With three different locations to choose from at our venue, you can find the perfect space that will fit the theme, size, and style of your wedding. Choose between the beachthe barn, and the manor and enjoy a beautiful ceremony for your wedding.

Our last blog also mentioned the wedding packages that Bohemia River Overlook offers, including many different features including a golf cart that will take you around the venue. The Bohemia River Overlook Wedding Package and the “Boho Chic” Wedding Package can help make your wedding planning much easier!

Find An Officiant

While many people choose priests or ministers to be their wedding officiant, you can select anybody. It is easy for someone to get ordained online so that they can perform your wedding. Talk with your significant other and decide who you want to be the officiant. Once you decide, meet with them and go over the wedding. Map out the ceremony and make sure you have all of the documents you will need on the day. This is also a good time to decide what the officiant will read and how the ceremony will go. Plan out the ceremony so that everyone is on the same page.

Start Planning The Honeymoon

While this is not part of your wedding, it is an important part of the actual marriage. Regular vacations take a while to plan but your honeymoon is more important than regular vacations. Plan where you want to go, when you want to go, and how long you want to be there. Do you want to leave right after the wedding or take a few days before heading out?

Planning your honeymoon should not be a stressful part of wedding planning, so starting early can help to make it easier to deal with. You need to plan the destination you want to head to, the areas you want to visit, and the things you want to do while there. Honeymoon registries are a popular trend in the wedding world and allow guests to give you money for different activities that you want to do for your honeymoon. This means you won’t have to worry about paying too much for skydiving, snorkeling, and a swim with the dolphins. Instead, you can let your guests donate money to these activities rather than receiving three toasters and five pan sets. You can find a list of different honeymoon registry sites and comparisons from The Knot.

Register

Speaking of honeymoon registry, you also need to take care of your regular wedding registry. Some people do not like giving money as a gift, even if it is going to an activity. For this reason, it is a good idea to also register at a few retailers. Register for items you need for your home, things you and your partner want, and other things that will be easy for your guests to get. Registering is important because it can help ensure you don’t actually receive three toasters.

Florist

In the last blog, we talked about decorations and how flowers make an easy and beautiful centerpieces for the wedding. Whether you choose to decorate with flowers or just use them in your ceremony, you will still need to hire a florist to make your bouquet and add arrangements around the venue. Florists are able to work several wedding in a day, so make sure they know the day of your wedding, the time, and the color scheme. You will obviously be picking out your bouquet, and the arrangements, but making sure they know the colors used in your wedding is important.

Finalize Plans For The Ceremony

Now that you wedding is drawing nearer, you should start finalizing plans for the ceremony and reception. This includes everything and anything. Let’s start with the vendors. While Bohemia River Overlook will provide you with a list of our favorite vendors when you use one of our wedding packages, checking up with them may be a good decision. If you are using our vendors or your own, you should contact them a month before your wedding and make sure they know the timelines, the menus, and every other detail is by you and them. You don’t want anything going wrong on your big day, and because of that, you want to make sure everyone else who has a part in your wedding knows what they are supposed to be doing. Once all the vendors are contacted you can feel better about the day going smoothly.

But if you want it to go as smoothly as possible, you also have to prepare the wedding party. A rehearsal dinner is an important part of a wedding and can help the families and wedding party know what they are doing and when. You will want to book the wedding rehearsal a day or two before the wedding, allowing family to fly in and making it easier for everyone.

Make Final Lists

Towards the end of your wedding planning you will hopefully have a final list of people who will be attending your wedding. Make sure you get this list to the vendors, especially the caterer, ensuring that you have enough food for everyone. If people have not yet responded, be sure to contact them and find out if they will make it or not. Then, you will want to make a final catering menu for your wedding.

The Finishing Touches

Some wedding plans are not as vital as others but are still important to do before the wedding. First, getting your wedding dress fitted needs to be done. Many people have a few fittings before their dress is perfect, so be prepared to try your dress on a few times before the big day.

Along with your dress, you will also want to make sure you break in your shoes, having shoes that are too tight or brand new and not yet broken in will make it hard for you to make it through the night pain free. So wear those beautiful and painful heels around the house until they are broken in and easier to wear around for hours.

You will also want to plan the seating chart, the playlist, the drinks you will want, hire someone to do your hair and makeup, plan when you want photos to be done, get gifts for your bridesmaids and maybe guests, and write your vows before the big day. There are many different aspects that go into a wedding, and making sure you have everything planned out accordingly will help you get through the night without any hiccups or mistakes. Even the simplest wedding takes a ton of planning, so be sure to start early or hire a wedding planner to help make sure you get everything crossed off your list. There are different things that can be excluded from your wedding and plans that can change to make the whole things easier, but that doesn’t mean you want need to plan aspects like the venue and vendors.

At Bohemia River Overlook, we offer a beautiful venue with three different locations that can give your wedding the feel you are going for. Whether you want a chic country wedding, a laid back beach ceremony, or an elegant celebration, we offer the venue for you! Our wedding packages can also help make your wedding planning easier.
